Elizabeth has a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from the Institute of Cancer Research (UK) and, before launching Science Exchange, was an Assistant Professor at University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine where she investigated breast cancer development and progression. Elizabeth has been featured in multiple media outlets and she regularly speaks at thought leadership events, such as the 2017 TechCrunch Disrupt, 2017 Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening annual meeting and the 2016 MassBio CRO/CMO Symposium. Dr James Tornos received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK and then went on to study for a PhD at the University of Nottingham, UK in Organic Chemistry. James began his industrial career in 1998 with AstraZeneca as a Process Development Chemist in Loughborough, UK with responsibility for developing new manufacturing routes of synthesis of new drugs targeted towards respiratory diseases. In 2003, James then made a move into a strategic sourcing and procurement role having responsibility for the procurement and outsourcing of research services and Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API’s) within AstraZeneca. This role soon expanded and James became Global Lead for outsourcing across this category, working with global stakeholders to establish a strategic outsourcing model. In 2006, James joined Pfizer Global Research and Development based at the Sandwich, UK site as an Associate Director of Procurement and Outsourcing working across Research and Development leading strategic outsourcing. In 2010, James then moved to Pfizer’s global R&D headquarters in Connecticut to take up a role as Team Leader/Director of Procurement and Outsourcing supporting Pfizer Global Research. This role expanded in 2014 to cover Procurement and Sourcing of all pre-clinical Services and R&D Materials for Pfizer.

Cliff Culver took his role as VP, Strategy and General Manager, Boston at Science Exchange in 2016.  In this role, Cliff collaborates with procurement teams at top biopharma companies to help increase their access to innovation, reduce administrative friction, and enhance spend visibility. Prior to joining Science Exchange, Cliff was the founder of OnDeckBiotech (acquired by Science Exchange), an online platform that combined relationship management tools to simplify the sourcing, selection, and administrative management of CROs with a marketplace for R&D vendor services.  Cliff’s work with OnDeck was recognized as a winner of MassChallenge, the largest annual startup competition in the world. Cliff began his career in corporate strategy and new ventures for the Advisory Board Company (NASDAQ: ABCO) where he co-authored the firm’s five-year growth strategy, evaluated health IT acquisitions and investments, and led the market research, initial development, and early sales of SaaS products to health systems.

Dr. Firelli Alonso is Senior Director, External Supply, BioTherapeutics Pharmaceutical Sciences at Pfizer, Inc. She heads the BioTherapeutics and Vaccines Outsourcing group in Worldwide Research and Development. Dr. Alonso has more than 33 years of combined experience in research, development, and cGMP production of biological products and vaccines, and more than 11 years of experience in outsourcing, project/contract management, and technology transfer to qualified third parties. Her areas of expertise include viral vectors and vaccine development, biotherapeutics and vaccine process development and cGMP production, project management, technology transfer, outsourcing, and budgets and operations. Prior to joining Wyeth/Pfizer in 1996, Dr. Alonso was at The Salk Institute (Government Services Division), a vaccine contract manufacturer for the U.S. Army. She obtained her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University of Alabama in Birmingham, followed by postdoctoral research at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases, Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, and Rutgers University Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine.

Patrick currently serves as Vice President, Global Enterprise Services, within the Unity Lab Services division of Thermo Fisher Scientific (ULS).  The ULS Enterprise Services business provides an array of customizable services to enable and support higher levels of researcher productivity within customer laboratories.  These services range from and include instrument repair and asset management, inventory management solutions, media prep and chemical management and a host of other similar scientific services that free-up researcher time and improve lab efficiency.  As general manager of the global ULS Enterprise Services business, Patrick serves as the single point to oversee the multiple internal functions that must work seamlessly together in order to efficiently develop and implement Enterprise Services engagements.  These internal functions include commercial, service solutions development, sourcing and implementations.  Patrick also has responsibility for determining the future portfolio of services. Patrick initially joined Thermo Fisher Scientific in 2004 as General Counsel of Fisher Hamilton, a business unit that manufactured laboratory furniture and fume hoods.  He was named General Counsel of Fisher Safety in 2006 and became Vice President & General Counsel of Fisher Scientific’s global Research Market Division one year later.  In 2010, Patrick was named Vice President Sales, Pharmaceutical Segment, Fisher Scientific, covering the United States.  This role was expanded to include the combined Research and Safety Market Division (RSD) and extended to North America in 2012.  Patrick assumed global responsibility in 2013 and managed a team of seventeen Industry Directors located through North America and EMEA. Prior to joining Thermo Fisher Scientific, Patrick spent four years serving as an attorney within the law firm of Tucker Arensberg, P.C. where he focused on healthcare law and mergers and acquisitions. Patrick holds a J.D. from The College of William & Mary and a bachelor’s degree from Grove City College.
